Woodall Breaks 200m Record, Hurdler Bell Places 15th at NAIA Indoor Championship

Tavius Woodall set a new 200-meter indoor mark and Tajanique Bell earned a top-15 finish in the 60-meter hurdles as the Baker track and field duo competed at the 2022-23 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Brookings, S.D.

In the preliminary round of the 60H, Bell posted her second straight national top-25 performance after running a time of 8.77 seconds, finishing runner-up in her heat and 15th overall in the event. The senior hurdler from San Diego, Calif. was an indoor and outdoor national qualifier for the Wildcats in 2021-22, including placing 21st in the 60H at last year’s indoor championship.

Woodall broke the program’s indoor 200m record after clocking a 21.57 in the prelims of Friday’s race, bumping off former Wildcat Justin Moore’s brief stint with top-time honors. A year ago, Moore went 21.76 and finished 15th in the event, while Woodall’s near 20-millisecond improvement from this season’s national meet placed him 14th overall.

Prior to the 200m, Woodall had another personal best with a 60-meter dash time of 6.88 seconds in the event’s prelims. He crossed the finish line a tick faster than his mark from the Heart Championships in February (6.89) where he took fourth.

Closing the books on its indoor campaign, the Baker track and field squad will now turn its attention to the outdoor season as they are scheduled to open with Emporia State’s Spring Invitational on March 18.
