Tolson Earns First-Team Nod, Four Wildcats Receive All-Conference Honors
Led by an All-Heart of America Conference first-team selection for guard Ainsley Tolson, four Baker women's basketball players received all-conference honors as the league announced its postseason awards today.
Joining Tolson on the conference list, Sophia Barrett was selected to the Heart's second team while Emma Cunningham and Leah Van Weelden garnered honorable mention honors.
Tolson (Sr., Trenton, Mo.) earned her first-team spot after leading the Wildcats in scoring with 14.8 points per game and averaging a team-high 5.1 assists per game. In her first season at Baker after transferring from Avila, Tolson recorded a season-high 32 points at Mount Mercy (Jan. 7) and reached double figures in 24 of the 27 games this year, including 20-point outings in three of her first seven games. She has also been terrific from the free throw line all season long, boasting an 80-percent average by going 146-for-183 at the charity stripe.
Barrett (So., Cedar Rapids, Iowa) followed up a conference honorable mention season from last year as a freshman by averaging 11.8ppg and collecting a total of 135 rebounds in her sophomore campaign. She came a rebound shy from a double-double on three separate occasions this season, including one of her best performances of the year in which she tallied 23 points and nine rebounds versus Grand View (Nov. 26).
Cunningham (Jr., Andover, Kan.) and Van Weelden (Sr., Marion, Iowa) round out Baker's all-conference honorees as the pair have played a key part in helping the Wildcats reach the Heart of America Conference Tournament for the first time since 2018-19. Cunningham posted double-double efforts in three games this season to own a team-best 182 rebounds while chipping in 10.3ppg. Starting all 27 games this year, Van Weelden has averaged double-digit scoring in her senior season with 294 points and has gone 88-for-110 at the line to give BU another 80-percent free-throw shooter in its arsenal.
