The City of Lawrence is hosting a ribbon cutting for the new segment of the Lawrence Loop, running from Peterson Road Park to Michigan Street.
The ribbon cutting will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, beginning at Peterson Road Park, 2250 Peterson Road. There will be a short ceremony followed by a quarter-mile walk, bike or roll down to the area for the ribbon cutting, which is at the west tunnel entrance under the Kansas Turnpike toll booth area. After the ribbon cutting, participants may walk or bike the remainder of the section, if desired.
The $1.9 million trail segment was primarily funded through a Federal Transportation Alternatives Grant, which is administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation.
For those attending the ribbon cutting by car, parking is available by the Lawrence Heights Christian Church, 2321 Peterson Road, in their parking lot near the park.
