Kansas women’s tennis will compete against Arizona in the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Tournament on Thursday, April 16 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Florida. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Central Time.
The Jayhawks enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed with a season record of 13-9 and a conference record of 9-4 after defeating Kansas State with a score of 4-0 on Sunday. The nine conference wins tie for the most in program history, matching totals from previous seasons including 1997, 1998, and 2002. Kansas is currently on a four-match winning streak, with each victory being a sweep.
Arizona holds the No. 4 seed and comes into Thursday’s match with a record of 19-8 overall and a conference mark of 10-3 this season. The Wildcats are riding a nine-match winning streak entering tournament play. Earlier this season on March 29, Arizona defeated Kansas when they met.
In national rankings released this week, Kansas moved up to No.36 as a team. Kyoka Kubo is ranked No.74 in singles with an individual record of eleven wins and six losses this season; her eleven singles victories are tied for most on the team alongside Heike Janse van Vuuren. In doubles competition, Kubo and van Vuuren are ranked No.64 as partners with five wins and one loss together so far this year.
Van Vuuren has posted an eleven-win singles campaign (11-7), while Meg McCarty has recorded ten doubles victories (10-4) alongside van Vuuren and holds an eight-win singles record (8-5). Kubo also pairs with Meriem Ben Ezzedine in doubles matches where they have achieved an eight-win three-loss mark.
