The Kansas Track and Field team is set to participate in the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, California, from April 16 to 18. Head coach Stanley Redwine said this meet will offer the Jayhawks a chance to improve as a team and address past mistakes.
The competition is important for Kansas as it faces strong opponents. Redwine said, “It’s going to be a really good opportunity to build upon where we are at as a team, and correct mistakes that we have made in the past. This is a very good meet with good competition and I think our athletes are ready to compete… We’ll have to go out and do what we do best, and compete at a high level.”
Last weekend, four Kansas multi event athletes competed in the multis section of the same meet, with Conor Dunback winning the decathlon B group. The men’s team is currently ranked No. 29 nationally by USTFCCCA and holds the fourth highest ranking among Big 12 teams. The men also lead in pole vault nationally with Anthony Meacham at the top spot, while their 800 meters group ranks fifteenth and their 1,500 meters group sixteenth nationwide. The women’s team holds the No. 51 national ranking.
The invitational’s schedule includes various running events starting Thursday morning with women’s 10,000 meter runs through Saturday evening’s relay races and field events such as high jump, triple jump, hammer throw (hosted partly by Citrus College), javelin throw, shot put, discus throw, long jump, and pole vault.
The event is sanctioned by World Athletics and USATF. Fans can follow updates on social media accounts @kansastfxc or visit kuathletics.com for final results.
