Kansas lost to Missouri 4-2 in the StorageMart Border Showdown on April 15 at Arrocha Ballpark. The Jayhawks’ late rally was not enough, dropping their season record to 29-13, while Missouri improved to 23-22.
The game saw Missouri score one run in each of the first two innings and maintain a lead until the sixth. Kansas tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth after senior Aynslee Linduff and senior Presley Limbaugh both singled, setting up junior Anna Soles for a bases-clearing triple that brought home two runs. “I think that we were chasing some pitches early on, maybe not staying disciplined with ourselves,” Kansas head coach Jennifer McFalls said. “They have a couple of really good pitchers, and they did a really nice job of keeping us off balance. We settled in and Anna (Soles) gave us a really nice spark with that triple, bringing in two runs that put us right back in the game. It was a good matchup.”
Missouri regained control in the top of the seventh when Abby Hay hit a two-run home run to take a decisive lead. In their final chance at bat, Kansas managed to get runners on base with Emma Tatum walking and Limbaugh collecting her second hit of the night but could not bring them home.
Pitching performances included Abby Carr earning her fifth win for Missouri after pitching two innings without allowing any runs and striking out three batters. Chloe Barber took her fourth loss for Kansas after giving up two runs over just over two innings.
Among notable individual performances, Linduff recorded her tenth multi-hit game this season and now has thirteen doubles—tied for sixth most in the Big 12 Conference entering this matchup. Limbaugh extended her hitting streak to six games while Soles marked her third triple this year and has driven in twelve runs over her last six games played.
Looking ahead, Kansas will travel for a Big 12 Conference series against UCF Knights from April 17-19. The Jayhawks are currently third in conference standings with a record of ten wins and five losses.
